INTERN VIEW: What sets HaloKlear apart?

Eric Bradley-1During my interview with Eric Bradley, HaloKlear Product Line Manager, we talked about some of the unique features of HaloKlear products. They can be used in a broad range of scenarios and application types, achieve the same goals as synthetic chemicals, and is traceable in effluent water.

Q: What is differentiating about the HaloKlear product line?

A: “We’re able to remove solids, turbidity, and comply with water treatment goals and water quality goals for all of these water treatment projects around the country by using natural chemistry. Nothing synthetic, nothing generated by fossil fuels. Just easy to use, safe, natural products that can be discharged into the environment with low toxicity.”

Q: When releasing effluent water, what advantages does HaloKlear have over synthetic chemicals?

A: “Chitosan has a really low toxicity level. If you’re discharging your treated water into a sensitive waterway, typically HaloKlear has a really nice, compatible fit with what regulators are looking for and what’s native to the watershed. An additional benefit over synthetic chemistry is that you can traresidual test kit-1-244891-editedce the residual chemistry in any water you’re discharging. The solids that settle out will have most of the chemistry in there, but to verify that we can trace the clear effluent water to prove that there is no residual chitosan. Synthetic polymers don’t have that same luxury. In fact, you can’t test for residual polyacrylamides, polyDADMACs, and other synthetic chemistries.”

Q: What treatment scenarios would benefit from using HaloKlear products?

A: “The big benefit that we see on projects is that chitosan and other products from the HaloKlear line have a very broad spectrum of use meaning that they will work on different types of projects, waters and contaminants. What’s great about our products is that we can apply the same chemistry to an active system with liquid products, or in a passive or semi-passive system using our dry socks.”

Now my only question is, why would anyone continue to use synthetic chemicals when a cost-effective, eco-friendly substitute is available?

MY MAIN TAKEAWAYS:

There is no better way to learn about something than straight from the specialists. Taking this time to learn from Eric Bradley helped me to gain a better understanding of Dober's water treatment products and how they serve their customer's needs.

A little bit of background on Dober’s water treatment division:

  • Greenfloc products are plant-based, and HaloKlear products are made with chitosan, which is found in shrimp shells, crab shells, and other crustaceans.
  • They serve industries ranging from construction to environmental remediation. The water treatment division was formed in 1982, and the HaloKlear line of products was acquired in 2016.
